Grant Park by Leonard Pitts Jr.

A propulsive page-turner - Toni Rocchetti reviews Grant Park.

February #read bud read…

Leonard Pitts, Jr is an underrated author. Two of his other books, Freeman and The Last Thing You Surrender are all-time favorite reads of mine. His writing is among some of the best and I hope his books find a place on your TBR.

Summary - Grant Park is a page-turning and provocative look at black and white relations in contemporary America, blending the absurd and the poignant in a powerfully well-crafted narrative that showcases Pitts’s gift for telling emotionally wrenching stories.

The magic in this one is in the conversations. Pitts creates a scenario that forces people with opposing views to interact with one another and let me tell you, those conversations are heated, important, and eye-opening – conversations between a white supremacist and a Black journalist, between a jaded white editor and a young open-minded white journalist, a young Black, Malcolm X following kid and Martin Luther King Jr – giving you different point of views. In the summary the description ‘page turner’ is used and let me tell you, I could not turn the pages fast enough – almost entirely from start to finish this book had me on the edge of my seat!

I am somehow always surprised how unique each of Pitts’s books are and this one brought it! Have you ever read any of Pitts books? If you haven’t, please do yourself a favor and check ’em out, you can thank me later
